Special bear to remember the founder of Steiff
Margarete Steiff Memorial Bear is made from the finest white mohair and is 5-way jointed (which means you can move his head, arms and legs). He has felt paw pads and his face has smart black eyes with hand embroidered black eyes and mouth.
Margarete Steiff sits in her wheelchair, contemplating the full, rich life that she has led.
In 1908 or thereabouts, this was a typical setting for the company founder.
One of the last photos ever taken of her shows her holding the brand-new Teddy bear Baho, and a trusty Dalmatian lying at her feet. In the picture, the angle of Margarete's hand and the cap the bear is wearing combine to make his ears look pointed - almost like those of a cat. Local artist Otto Neubrand captured the scene in 1947 in an oil painting that can still be seen in the Steiff Museum to this day.
In 2019, to mark the 110th anniversary of Margarete Steiff's death, her companion in this photo has been been brought out as this special limited edition Margarete Memorial Teddy bear. A homage to the courageous innovator who founded the Steiff company, he is made from the finest light mohair and utterly unique.
